The CEO of Reira Eco Ventures after promoting organic farming and various agricultural activities is now focusing on water conservation. He started a pilot project of rainwater harvesting at his residence at Saligao.

"We are facing water shortages for our agricultural projects. So I decided to harvest rainwater. Every calorie of food grown requires 7000 litres of water", states Pereira.

It was a pilot project that was started two years ago. The capacity of this tank is 2.8 million litres. It is to harvest his fields and also to supply water, if needed.

Now this project is become a source of inspiration for others. "The replica of this project is being installed at Saligao seminary where the capacity is 3.6 million litres and also one at Tivim where it can accumulate 1.8 million litres of water. I am happy that I can help people install it by way of free supervision, consultancy etc," concludes Pereira, whose long term aim is to make Goa self sufficient in terms of water.
